Launched back in 2013, the 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗯𝘂𝘀 𝟰𝟬 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗛𝘆𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱 is characterised by the original semi-displacement hull, analysed both with numerical methods and with checks on the model, and for the construction in light alloy. The specially designed chine hull allows to navigate with constant trim in all conditions, also thanks to the particular design of the propeller tunnel and the presence of an Interceptor.

Among the characteristics of greatest impact, its eco-friendly qualities, which guaranteed the RINA Green Plus class, are particularly striking; the hybrid propulsion system that we developed allows two electric motors connected to a gearbox to be placed alongside the main motors, thus allowing electric navigation at a maximum speed of 7.5 knots using the energy produced by the generators and, at the same time, producing new energy when the main engines are running.It is now over 10 years since the first Columbus 40 Sport Hybrid was launched. This 40-metre yacht, with an all-aluminium hull, not only won 3 awards on its debut, but has also collected a number of other awards for its innovative features, environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. At the Showboats Design Awards in 2014, the Columbus Sport Hybrid triumphed in three different categories: Holistic Design Award (best holistic design), Environmental Protection Award (best environmentally friendly design) and Interior Design Award (best interior design).

Among the various awards, the “Environmental Award 2013” promoted by the “Union Internationale Motonautique”, for the innovative solutions implemented on board, in particular for the hybrid propulsion system, is undoubtedly worth mentioning.

RINA for its part awarded the yacht the additional Class Note “Hybrid Propulsion”, a designation introduced for the first time in history, based on the design specifications of the Columbus 40 Sport Hybrid, together with the prestigious “Green Star Plus Platinum”.
